Forum Post: RE: HMX upgrade to 6.30.0.12
Hi Torsten,
I wasn't certain of the response time on the discussion group, that is why I opened a case at support. It is good now. The part I was missing was you have to connect to the transmitter via ethernet through the receiver which has a serial connection to the PC and receiver has to be in extender mode. I would still like to know why the uploaded firmware is not available as a choice when doing the upgrade using the HMX Manager.
Forum Post: RE: Avocent DSR1021 reset factory settings
Hello Anton; Please call (888)793-8763 to start a case so yo can get help with this issue. Depending on how the passwords were set will depend upon what us necessary to reset the device.

Forum Post: RE: ACS 6000 series. After power cycle the units are stuck at the == prompt and have to be manually booted (via console cable)
Hello Jeepdriver; Yes, I have seen thsi before. It really depends upon the cause of the re-boot and what happens during the ACS reboot process (additional external events). I have not had this issue on any of the ACS6000's in our lab in quite some time. Just for reference we are running firmware verison v2.5.0.10

Forum Post: RE: MPU8032-G01 not recognizing keyboard
Hello rhutchison;
I would suggest first to power cycle the MPU and while it is off to unplug and plug back in the keyboard several time, then turn the MPU back on and wait for at least on full minute Test the keyboard for oepration, if it does not work, try another USB port on the MPU and test the keyboard for operation. Disconnect the currently being used keyboad and use another verfied to be working keyboard, and test the keyboard for operation. Next I would use the cable furnished with the MPU and connect to the MPU "SET UP" port on th rear panel fo the MPU this ill be a PUTTY serial conenction and it is a text only console, I would perform a factory default from there. If non of this works I would call (888)793-8763 and start a support case.
Regards;
Danny
Forum Post: RE: Analog Output Modes
"I have a DVC6200 Fischer control valve connected to the system via analog input (M-series input card and controller) "
Just so that I am not assuming anything... can I assume that you mean that it is wired to an Analog *output* card?
When I have had these issues in the past, it has always been the mode of the transducer block in the DVC.
Forum Post: RE: Avocent DSR8035 Application Error
I have just again a firmware upgrade "dsr _x035_3.7.2.1_de.fl" performed with the serial interface (setup).
I always have the same result when login in the language, only English and 2x Chinese

Forum Post: UMG 4000 and issues with AD group names containing spaces
I have 2 UMG 4000 devices and I have configured them for LDAP authentication agianst our AD. When I add AD group names containing spaces, group authentication does not work and it picks up default "user" level access. If the AD group does not contain a space, group authentication seems to work correctly. Is this a known issue? Prior to version 2.5.0.8, I was not even able to enter a group name containing a space. But after my upgrade to 2.5.0.8, I can now enter a group name with a space, but the authentication still dows not work correctly.

Thanks for the suggestions guys... hope to try a few of the HART related ones today, so I'll let you know.
Aaron, sorry for the miscommunication-- the valve is wired into an Analog Output card.
File: Pulse Width Modulation PID and Asi_bus
Hi, we need make a Pulse Width Modulation PID, I know how to make with DO card, but I don´t know how to make it in Asi_bus card. I will use a on-off valve in Asi_bus network.

Blog Post: Safety tip: Try infrared thermographic inspections
If you are familiar with currents and electricity, then chances are you are familiar with Georg Simon Ohm. He is the German physicist who discovered that the voltage applied across a conductor is directly proportional to the resultant electric current. This theory, known as Ohm’s Law, also states that the resistance, which is the ratio of voltage to current, is constant for a given material at a fixed temperature.
As a consequence of Ohm’s Law, Joule’s First Law, discovered by James Prescott Joule, explains how current passing through a resistive circuit leads to the conversion of electrical energy into heat energy. This established the relationship between a circuit’s current and resistance and the resulting heat produced. In other words, as a component’s resistance increases for a constant current, so does its temperature. This effect, known as Joule heating or Ohmic heating, is what makes electric stoves and heaters work.
By combining infrared technology with Joule heating, you get a safe way to monitor and test electrical parts, systems and equipment for defective components or connections. Normal wear, vibration, chemical contamination, corrosion, fatigue, and faulty assembly or installation may lower the conductivity and increase the resistance level of a connection or component. In accordance with Joule’s Law, this increase in resistance will cause an increase in the temperature of the connection or component, which can be detected with infrared testing.
Higher than normal temperatures can indicate impending component failure, short circuits, ground faults and other conditions that can lead to equipment breakdowns and safety incidents. An infrared thermographic camera can pinpoint the sources of excess heat, quickly identifying potential problems that may not be obvious in a visual inspection. Because it requires no physical contact, thermographic testing can also be performed much more quickly than manual testing, with no need to shut down equipment or interrupt production.
Infrared thermography helps protect people by keeping inspectors and metering equipment away from exposed circuit boards, wiring, cables and motors. For facilities, infrared technology can help prevent large-scale disasters caused by faulty wiring, overloaded circuitry, loose electrical connections, improper installations and aging components.
Another benefit of infrared testing is its cost and time savings. Systematic thermal inspections can identify problems early and help prioritize repairs when it is time for turnaround maintenance. If the problem is severe enough, immediate repair can eliminate the issue and decrease turnaround times.
Today, many inspectors are adding infrared technology to their repertoire to test and survey a variety of electrical, mechanical and even structural areas. The National Fire Protection Association provides specifications for routine and systematic infrared thermographic inspection in NFPA 70B, Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance.
Thermographic inspection was also recently added to the Hazard/Risk Classifications Table in NFPA 70E, Standards for Electrical Safety in the Workplace – a clear indication that infrared technology has become a basic tool in the safety inspector’s toolbox. The InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) also recommends the use of infrared inspection in the testing of electrical systems and components.
Infrared thermography is a fast, affordable and effective way to detect hot spots that may become failure points. If you’re not already doing it, consider adding the power of physics – in the form of Ohm’s and Joule’s laws – to your safety regimen.
